Lochwood Values: Education
There is so much to learn in this world. Every day, life-giving discoveries are made that enable us to reach new heights in science, works of literature, music, etc. Children are born with a natural curiosity and an eagerness to find out all they can about the universe and the wonder that it holds. Our goal is to inspire that thirst for knowledge as much as possible.
It is a beautiful thing to have the freedom to be educated, as well as the means to do so. Here at Lochwood, we will always encourage the student to be curious and intuitive and to embrace every opportunity to learn even more. It is so very important to us that the student understands not just how to play an instrument or perform a piece, but why we do it--to grow as an artist, as a musician, as an individual. To learn the meaning behind the piece, and perform it to the best of our abilities.
One of the best ways to be educated is through great teachers. Those who are older and wiser, who are choosing to give their time to instruct someone young and impressionable is something to be valued. Every second that one is able to teach is a second to make a difference in a student's life. As Albert Einstein once said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge"--and it is also the greatest privilege.
